Lego Kintsugi Sidewalks with Little Friends Learning Loft
Kintsugi is the Japanese practice of repairing broken pottery with gold, so the crack becomes the most beautiful part of the piece. This workshop hands that idea to children ages five to eight, who already live close to the ground and notice what the rest of us walk past: a gap in a curb, a chipped bit of molding on Liberty Street, a split in a sewer cover. Together we'll walk to five or six cracks around downtown Newburgh, lay paper over each one and rub it to capture its shape, then head back to the warehouse to build Lego pieces that fit those shapes exactly. Finally we'll set each piece into its crack with resin, so it stays. After Archtober, a scavenger hunt map will send families out to find the repairs, and they'll keep living in the neighborhood for other kids to discover. Small hands, small mends, and a city worth tending.
