Preserving Lander Street with Newburgh Community Land Bank
Once emblematic of Newburgh's vacant and abandoned housing crisis, Lander Street has been transformed through thoughtful restoration, infill development, and a shared commitment to affordable homeownership. Join the Newburgh Community Land Bank for a walking tour exploring the history of the block, the strategies behind its revitalization, and the partnerships that helped make its renewal possible.
Designers Diana Mangaser and Yoshi Sergel of Open Structure will provide details on two exciting new projects that the land bank is developing on Lander St involving both historic rehab and new construction utilizing sustainable building methods. Generating about 45 units of housing as well as commercial spaces, one will provide affordable rental units and the other a cooperative, which may be one of the first of its kind in Newburgh and the Hudson Valley.
Learn how strategic investment, preservation, collaboration, and long-term planning are helping strengthen neighborhoods while protecting the architectural character that makes Newburgh unique.
This event is presented in partnership with the Newburgh Community Land Bank, Open Structure, and The Fullerton.
